Weaver is absolutely fascinating, and she is finally given some disturbingly poetic language for her beautiful voice. Rodriguez was the most adorable psychotic hit-man ever, and she gives a very brave performance here. I read the negative reviews for this movie, and frankly, I don't just think they are wrong; they are deliberately dishonest. The script is well-written and logically consistent. If the characters are, this is a CRIME THRILLER and the characters should be easy to distinguish from a basket of puppies. If elements of the plot are lurid and, this is a CRIME THRILLER and the story should not be set at family game night at the Romney household. I hear they made another Transformers movie. Perhaps you drips should have gone to see that instead.

In fact I have sort of followed her ever since the first Resident Evil movie. Reviewed in the United States on August 6, 2018 Verified Purchase The best part of this film was Michelle Rodriguez. She was perfect for the role of Frank Kitchen. There's also a lot of good actors in this movie like Tony Shalhoub, Anthony LaPaglia, and of course Sigourney Weaver. Unfortunately the direction and script let everyone down. Some of the dialogue is cringe worthy, but you see the actors especially Weaver doing their best with what they've been given. The film moves back and forwards thru time, they try doing some narration by the main character and then switch to a video journal. It throws a lot of gimmicks like these out there not settling on one, but all it does is show how all over the place the direction is. It wanted to be a neo-noir type of story, but its just a mess with weak writing. Some of the background incidental music sounded like it was from some old tv show from back in the 1970s or 80s, which means it was probably something stock that they had in a studio library.
The "suspension of disbelief" required to watch this is rather huge. "Frank" heals so quickly from the surgery that one starts to think he must be Wolverine in disguise. The lack of scars is attributed to the 'skill' of the doctor. Sorry but, no. Just no. The acting was mediocre, with most of the lines delivered either a) flat, or b) over-blown (looking at YOU, Tony! ). All in all, rather disappointing. My wife enjoyed it, (mostly due to being a M. R. fan) but, I (a fan of action and 'revenge' movies) was left less than impressed. Not to say that there wasn't possibilities. I think it could have said something decent about being transgender or it could have gone in an opposite direction towards black comedy. It certainly had potential for humor with the wacky characters. Think about it, the surgeon who is a mad scientist type, the not very good weirdo psychologist, the not very nice hitman who maybe has it coming and all the other strange characters. This could have easily been turned into a dark comedy. It needed someone like Robert Rodriguez (Machete, Dusk till Dawn, Desperado, Sin City) at the helm. According to the trivia the script was written in 1978 and just sat in someone's drawer for years. Perhaps it needed updating or at least serious overhaul.
